75 IDPs die from diarheal, respiratory diseases in Fashoda
In Upper Nile, the Fashoda County commissioner says about 75 internally displaced persons have died from diarrhea and chest problems in the area.
I have received a medical report saying that there are many people including children, youth and old people have died from diarrhea,” Commissioner Morris Adieng told Eye.
“The report says 75 people have died since they came one month ago because of diarrhea and cough in Lul [payam].”
The county is hosting about 150,000 IDPs who fled fighting in Malakal town.
Mr Adieng said the displaced, mostly women and children, are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
“All these people are in need of many things, on top of them, food and medicines.”
He added that the IDPs sleep in the open as they have not yet received any humanitarian assistance from the relief agencies.
