The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, and a delegation of state MPs led by Speaker Salam Alhaj Babala have discussed efforts to resume the state legislature, which is currently on recess.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s office yesterday, Governor Adil met with Speaker Babala to explore ways to allow parliamentary sittings to resume, so lawmakers can deliberate on bills and memos that have been stalled due to the closure of parliament.

The lawmakers highlighted the need to end the long recess, which has delayed the passage of critical state bills and memos.

During the meeting, Governor Adil stressed the importance of cooperation between the executive and legislature in addressing public concerns as the New Year begins.

He also urged legislators to educate the public about the forthcoming elections in their constituencies, noting that grassroots engagement is vital as elections draw near.

The statement added that the legislators pledged to work with the executive branch to pass laws, represent public voices, and expedite parliamentary sittings for the benefit of the entire state.
