The Retired Catholic Bishop of Torit Paride Taban says the Internally Displaced Persons in Mundri County, Western Equatoria State are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

At least 80,000 people are reported to have fled their homes in Mundri flowing clashes between the SPLA soldiers and the group known as arrow boys.

Bishop Taban who visited the area last week with other six religious leaders from South Sudan urged the humanitarian agencies to intervene into the situation in Mundri in order to save lives.

“I want to say clearly that the people there [in Mundri] need clearly humanitarian support—starting from food, medicine, utensils and everything,” the bishop says.

“Another thing, give chance to the church and try to heal these people who are traumatized, they are traumatized,” he says.

Bishop Taban said Mundri town has been completely deserted by civilians following recent clashes between SPLA soldiers and the youth in the area.
