SPLA-IO forces to arrive in Juba ‘soon’
The SPLM in Opposition says its security forces will arrive in Juba soon as part of the security arrangements ahead of the coming of Dr Riek Machar.
Last week, the government and the SPLM in Opposition agreed to a new security deal to speed up the return of Dr Riek to take up his position as the first vice president under the peace agreement.
He would work with President Salva Kiir to form a transitional government of national unity.
The first phase of the arrangements included the return of 1,370 soldiers to Juba.
The spokesman of the advance team in Juba, William Ezekiel, said logistical issues related to their transport are being addressed.
“The parties to the agreement and the guarantors are working tirelessly to see to it that this issue is resolved as quickly as possible,” Mr Ezekiel told Eye Radio.
However, he did not specify the logistical problems. The Minister of Information has not been available for comment.
