Egypt plans to deport ‘South Sudanese gangs’

• • 1 min read

South Sudanese accused of engaging in criminal activities in Egypt will be deported to Juba, the South Sudan ambassador to Egypt has announced.

Ambassador Antony Louis Kon told Eye Radio that some youth have organized themselves into gangs that threaten the security of the South Sudanese in Egypt.

He said the gangs killed one person and injured others last month and attacked a journalist three days ago.

The ambassador said the Egyptian government has agreed that South Sudanese who are in the jails will be tried in South Sudan.

“We spoke to our government in South Sudan to provide resources, about 50 to 100 tickets so that we can relocate our people because some of them have committed crimes and they are now in the Egyptian jails” Amb Kon explained.

He added that the gangs refused previous attempts to send them home.

According to the Egyptian media, the so-called “Lost Boys and Outlaws” sects are notorious for robbery with violence and terror on their fellow South Sudanese and other black Africans.

He said the embassy officials managed to convince the gangs to stop engaging in criminal activities two years ago. But they have now resumed the activities.
