IGAD holds ‘leadership consultation’ meeting with stakeholders
A ‘leadership consultation meeting’ between the IGAD mediation team and the stakeholders’ team leaders is taking place in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
The meeting is being held at the United Nations’ Economic Commission for Africa’s Conference Center.
The IGAD mediators are consulting with the leaders of the six groups plus one eminent personality.
They are discussing the way forward after the mediation team decided yesterday to extend the South Sudan peace talks from today to the 28th of this month, reported our correspondent Nichola Mandil in Addis Ababa.
The meeting is being chaired by the deputy chief mediator, General Lazaro Sumbeiywo.
Present at the meeting are the head of the Government’s delegation, Nhial Deng Nhial, the head of the SPLM-SPLA in Opposition, General Taban Deng Gai, Ambassador Andrew Makur, and the leaders of other four groups.
Mr. Deng Alor Kuol, former political detainee, is also at the meeting, representing all the former political detainees.
A member of the group told Eye Radio before the start of the meeting that they will discuss and approve the agenda, which the delegates will discuss during the next two weeks.
