Energy Ministry operationalises Power Generation Regulations 2026

The Ministry of Energy and Dams has operationalised the Power Generation Regulations 2026, a policy framework aimed at providing guidelines for electricity production and reducing tariffs across South Sudan.

The regulations are organized into four main chapters: Preliminary Provisions, Electricity Power Generation, Other Requirements, and Miscellaneous Provisions.

Key provisions include mandatory reporting of accidents and incidents within 24 hours, the establishment of non-discriminatory tariffs, and strict penalties for unauthorized power generation.

The policy also seeks to regulate electricity generation, export, import, and other related activities in the country.

Addressing journalists at the signing ceremony held at the ministry’s headquarters this morning, Deputy Minister Agok Makur Kur said the regulations are intended to improve the regulation of power distribution across the country.

“Today, we are in the process of signing a regulation concerning power generation in the country,” he said.

“This regulation sets out the guidelines related to electricity production and is organized into four main sections, each containing various articles,” he said, added “The entire regulation now, as it will be made available immediately after signing. It will be published in the official gazette and will be accessible through the Ministry of Justice.”

Makur also said the ministry is working with the Ministry of Justice to finalize the pending Transmission Regulations.

“There are other regulations currently under review at the Ministry of Justice. Once the review process is completed, we will proceed to sign the regulations related to electricity generation in the country, known as the Transmission Regulation,” he added.
