Author : | Published: Wednesday, May 8, 2013

A local NGO based in Juba, is conducting a three-day awareness campaign on provision of legal aid to communities in conflict with the law in Wau, Western Bahr El-Ghazal State. The project is funded by TroCaire, an Irish organization working in over 20 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, that campaigns for global justice and peace.

The Coordinator of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization, Edmond Yakani, explained to Eye Radio why Wau has been chosen for the launch of the program. Over a hundred members of civil society organizations, 21 police officers and 10 Members of Parliament were detained in Wau when violent protests broke out at the end of last year.
