DDR for older soldiers

The Disarmament and Demobilization Commission says soldiers over the age of 50 will be demobilized from the SPLA. The demobilization exercise is targeting one hundred and fifty thousand soldiers countrywide. The chairperson of the commission, William Deng Deng five hundred ex-combatants from Bahr el Ghazal region will also begin their training at Mapel training center next week. Mister Deng said the ex-combatants will receive training in agricultural production, building construction, metal welding and fabrication, catering; based on market assessments. Once demobilized, the ex-combatants will also receive pensions through the National Military Pension Fund –which is yet to be passed by the parliament.
