The Deputy Minister of Education has travelled to Kampala to discuss with Ugandan authorities possibility of offering scholarships to South Sudanese students.

Bol Makueng told Eye Radio this shortly before boarding plane for Entebbe that if Uganda offers scholarships to South Sudan, many students who have certificates will go to universities.

“I am going to work with the Ministry of Education in Uganda to find scholarships for our students in South Sudan. Since last year we had an agreement, which was not formalized, you may recall that before we were appointed as minister and deputy minister in this ministry, there were about three batches of students that sate for the secondary school examinations and they did not go to universities.” He said.

Makueng said there are many students who have not been admitted into higher institutions of learning for many years now due to limited vacancies.

“So we are trying to accommodate all these students in the national as well as foreign universities so that by December this year we don’t have anyone again who will be lingering with the certificate of having pass into university and is not studying in the university.” He said.
