Fulla Dam impact

Author : | Published: Thursday, May 2, 2013

A Member of Parliament is urging the government to compensate people who will be displaced by the construction of the Fulla Dam in Nimule near the Ugandan border. Last month, the government announced the construction of a one hundred and sixty million dollars hydro-power plant that will supply Nimule, Juba and its surrounding with 40 megawatts electricity.

A member of the committee of Economy Development and Finance in the National Assembly, Honorable Henry Omari told Eye Radio that the government should provide good social services to the people that will be affected by the dam construction. Honorable Omari also blames the national government for failing to implement some earlier promised projects.

The Fulla hydro-power transmission line of about 150 kilometers will be connected within 3 years. Currently, there is inadequate supply of electricity in the Country, and the construction of the Dam will provide power to the citizens and encourage industrialization.
