Gov Kuol ‘Struggles’ to relocate his Office to Buma

Jonglei State Government says it is waiting for a suitable means of transport in order to move its Local Government Administration to Buma in Pibor County.

Once established, the administration will take care of development activities in Buma, the State Governor Kuol Manyang told Eye Radio.

“We are making arrangement to send forces there, but we do not have means of transportation,” he added.

There is no direct route from Bor to Buma. Besides the general poor road networks in South Sudan, the small town is hilly and surrounded by gulleys.

It’s accessible by air – helicopter only. By land, one has to drive through Juba, Torit, Kapoeta and then to Buma.

“It’s a long way and we don’t have good cars to take us there,” said Mr. Manyang, “We are depending on UNMISS for transportation.”

Governor Kuol also said that he has instructed state police to take charge of the security in the area.

Last month, after the SPLA recaptured Buma town from David Yau Yau’s forces, Governor Kuol Manyang announced that he would move some government offices to Buma to encourage civilians return to the Payam.
