Key women to discuss peace process in the US

The UN Women in collaboration with the International Peace Institute are holding a forum this week to discuss the contribution of women in the South Sudan peace process.

The main speakers will include the first lady, Mary Ayen, the former Minister of Energy and Mining, Angelina Teny and the former First Lady of Southern Sudan and former Minister of Roads and Transport for South Sudan, Rebecca Nyandeng Garang de Mabior.

The Chairperson of the South Sudan Women’s Peace Network, Priscilla Joseph, will also be among key speakers.

The International Peace Institute says the event will discuss key lessons learned from the peace process.

The panelists will share their goals for the continued rebuilding of South Sudan and how they envision women taking a greater role in South Sudanese government and society in the future.

The Executive Director of the UNWOMEN, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Leymah Gbowee will also take part in the forum in the US on Thursday.
