President Salva Kiir has met representatives of parties to the peace agreement ahead of the September 17, 2026 Inter-Party Dialogue, which will discuss whether the December 2026 elections should be held at once or in phases.

According to a statement from the Office of the President, President Kiir met leaders of various political parties today.

The long-delayed dialogue is expected to provide a platform for political parties and other stakeholders to discuss key issues ahead of the elections.

The talks will focus on the country’s electoral pathway and transitional political settlement.

The parties are expected to discuss political space for campaigning, freedom of assembly and speech, as well as other electoral issues.

The dialogue will also identify post-election issues requiring national agreement to help maintain peace, political legitimacy and continuity of state-building.
