Menegitis kills 2

At least two people have died and 38 are ill with meningitis in Upper Nile State. The Ministry of Health has declared outbreak of Meningitis. Speaking to Eye Radio the deputy Minister of Health, Doctor Yatta Logur confirmed the outbreak. Doctor Yatta urged people to maintain personal hygiene -especially when dealing with food and water.

According to World Health Organization, Meningitis is a bacterial infection of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. The most common symptoms of meningitis are headache and neck stiffness associated with fever, confusion or altered consciousness, vomiting, and an inability to tolerate light or loud noises.

Meningitis can be prevented by observing proper hygiene and through vaccination available at the hospitals.
