New Eastern Equatoria education minister vows to prioritize teachers’ salaries

• • 1 min read

The newly appointed Caretaker Minister of General Education, Youth and Culture in Eastern Equatoria State has pledged to address teachers’ salary concerns and keep schools operational as the state prepares for elections.

Ibwaha Lucy Allam says resolving salary complaints from ministry staff will be among her immediate priorities.

She says she will consult Directors-General and other senior officials to understand the ministry’s current situation and identify challenges left by the previous administration.

The minister has also called for schools to remain safe and free from political disruptions during the election period.

Allam expressed concern after observing students moving around Torit instead of attending classes.

She urged education workers to remain committed to their duties despite salary challenges, saying the ministry will work with staff to address their concerns.

Allam says maintaining stability in schools is important to ensure students continue their education without disruption during the election period.
