NLA adjourns on National Security Bill discourse for Eid Al-Adha
The National Legislative Assembly has today adjourned discussions on the national security service bill due to the extension of the Eid Al-Adha holiday.
Some members of the parliament are Muslim.
Last week, the Assembly also postponed the debate on the bill, saying it gives more powers to the state security to arrest without warrant.
The leader of minority in the Assembly, Honorable Onyoti Adigo, told the media that today’s discussion will continue tomorrow.
“because today is a holiday for Muslim and we have got some Muslim in the parliament, may be the speaker would like the other members to be present in the time of discussion”, Odigo said.
Honorable Adigo urged the ruling party, the SPLM to solve differences in the bill so that it is passed in its fourth and final reading.
The national security service bill has been criticized by the human rights groups and the US government for contradicting freedoms enshrined in the transitional constitution of South Sudan.
