President receives National Security Service Act

The office of the president has confirmed that it has received the National Security Service Act.

The Act was enacted and passed by the parliament on its fourth reading.

The spokesperson of the office of the president, Ateny Wek Ateny says the bill will be withheld by the president for a period of thirty days according to the transitional constitution of South Sudan.

He says the president will then decide to assent, sign or return the bill to the National Legislative Assembly with appropriate reasons.

“The bill is now with the legal administration in the office of the president, which is competent to deal with matters related to controversies hold by the 2014 act. And accordingly will advise the president on whether to assent, sign or to return the bill to the national legislative assembly will all the reasons, dues as appropriate in the circumstance or to return the bill to the national legislative assembly.” The Presidential Press Secretary said.

The National Security Service Bill had caused outraged amongst the civil society groups inside and outside the country after it was passed by the August House.
