Radio Jonglei CEO Tijwog Agwet resigns from SPLM-IO
The Chief Executive Officer of Radio Jonglei, Tijwog Agwet, has announced his resignation from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO), saying the party has drifted away from the ideals upon which it was founded.
In a resignation letter dated July 6, 2026, and shared with Eye Radio, Agwet said he made the decision after careful consideration and growing concerns over the movement’s current direction.
According to the statement, Agwet said the SPLM-IO was originally formed with the objective of promoting democratic change, institutional reform, justice, accountability, and national unity. He noted that these principles inspired his commitment to the movement over the years.
However, he expressed disappointment with what he described as a departure from the organization’s founding vision, arguing that the party had lost its ideological focus and no longer reflected the values it was established to uphold.
Agwet said his decision to leave the movement was based on principle and his belief in the need for political organizations to remain committed to their stated objectives and the aspirations of the people they seek to serve.
Before assuming his current role at Radio Jonglei, Agwet served as a Presidential Advisor on Religious Affairs. He has also been involved in public communication and civic engagement initiatives in South Sudan.
His resignation comes at a time when political parties across the country continue to face scrutiny over internal cohesion, reform agendas, and their role in advancing the implementation of South Sudan’s peace process.
The SPLM-IO has not publicly responded to Agwet’s resignation at the time of publication.
