Ramaphosa stresses inclusive elections during meeting with Kiir in Pretoria
South African Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says President Cyril Ramaphosa has underscored the need for an inclusive electoral process in South Sudan ahead of the planned December elections.
Magwenya says Ramaphosa made the remarks on Wednesday during a meeting with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit in Pretoria, during Kiir’s working visit to South Africa.
He says Ramaphosa called for mutual trust and cooperation among South Sudanese stakeholders to address outstanding challenges and create an enabling environment for the implementation of the peace agreement.
“President Ramaphosa underscored the need for an inclusive electoral process predicated on mutual trust and cooperation among South Sudanese stakeholders to address outstanding challenges and create an enabling environment for the effective implementation of the peace agreement, especially towards the lead up to the December elections,” Magwenya said.
Ramaphosa also stressed the importance of the full implementation of South Sudan’s peace agreement as the country prepares for the December polls.
The South African President says an inclusive electoral process is critical to advancing peace and stability in South Sudan.
