JUBA, South Sudan (Eye Radio) – The Foreign Ministers of Somalia and South Sudan held a telephone conversation on Saturday, December 27, to discuss regional stability and national sovereignty following Israel’s recognition of the breakaway Somaliland region, according to the Somali Foreign Ministry.
According to a statement from the Somali Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali and his South Sudanese counterpart, Monday Semaya, expressed strong solidarity regarding Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity during their call.
The two ministers emphasized the need for African nations to stand together in upholding international law and protecting the borders of sovereign states.
Both diplomats issued an unequivocal rejection of any actions that might undermine Somalia’s territorial integrity. They noted that safeguarding national sovereignty is essential for maintaining peace across the Horn of Africa and the wider East African region.

The discussion underlines the growing diplomatic coordination between Juba and Mogadishu, as both countries seek to align their positions on regional security and the sanctity of established borders.
On Friday, December 26, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he formally recognised the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state.
According to Reuters, this marks a major turning point for the breakaway region, which has functioned as a self-governing entity since 1991 without international recognition.
Prime Minister Netanyahu confirmed that Israel will pursue immediate partnerships with Somaliland in the fields of agriculture, technology, health, and the economy.
He stated that this declaration is in the spirit of the 2020 Abraham Accords, which normalized ties between Israel and several Arab nations.
In response, Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi welcomed the move and confirmed that his nation will officially join the Accords to foster regional stability.
The decision has sparked immediate and fierce condemnation from the federal government of Somalia, which denounced the move as an unlawful attack on its sovereignty.
Mogadishu vowed to take all necessary diplomatic and legal measures to defend its internationally recognized borders.
