SSOA relinquishes Jonglei governorship to SPLM

Jonglei State governor Denay Jock Chagor is set to step down or be relieved after his SSOA alliance agreed to swap the position with that of the deputy governorship.

The decision was reached after President Kiir tasked the leadership of SSOA to find an option to address the simmering governance crisis in the state.

The Office of the President quotes Gabriel Changson Chang, a senior member of SSOA as saying they are satisfied  contended with the new arrangement for the sake of restoring peace and a functional administration in Jonglei State.

According to the new arrangement, SSOA will take up a Ministerial position in the National Government and a Special Envoy position and the deputy Governor of Jonglei.

President Kiir is expected to effect the changes in the coming days.
