S Sudanese in Sudan in need of aid

South Sudanese refugees in Sudan are in dire need of humanitarian assistance, the humanitarian attaché in the embassy in Khartoum has said.

There are more than 440,000 South Sudanese refugees in Sudan. They fled the violence which erupted in December 2013.

Kebi Jeremiah says the refugees, who are mainly women and children, are in needs of food, shelter and other basic necessities.

He says they have been neglected by humanitarian agencies and the government of Sudan.

“There are no organizations providing them with food. There are no jobs for them to cater for their daily needs,” Mr Jeremiah said.

Mr. Jeremiah says they are also facing issue of proper settlements. The lands owners of the area where the refugees are settled are claiming for their land.

“The Red Cross has been trying to help but it cannot cover all the needs of the people. So most of those in those camp are suffering because they don’t have particular attention from the government and the refugee organizations.”

Mr. Jeremiah called for urgent assistance for them.
