Western Equatoria launches voter education drive ahead of 2026 polls
The Western Equatoria State High Elections Committee launched a state-wide civic and voter education program on Tuesday ahead of South Sudan’s 2026 general elections.
According to a statement from his office, Governor Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa said the campaign aims to inform the public about voter registration, balloting procedures, and constitutional rights.
He added that state officials will work alongside security agencies and the National Elections Commission (NEC) to maintain safety during the process.
“Our commitment remains firm. Elections must take place, and Western Equatoria will do everything possible to ensure they are conducted peacefully, freely, and securely,” Rimbasa said.
Simon Bakaba Monday, who heads the Western Equatoria State High Elections Committee, stated that local units are ready to roll out awareness activities across every county once partner support is finalized.
Meanwhile, Wanga Emmanuel, Chairperson of the Western Equatoria State Civil Society Network, urged the government to provide timely funding for election operations.
He stressed that authorities must protect civic educators, polling staff, and voters so the public can elect its leaders without disruption.
