7-day curfew in Lakes

• • 1 min read

Lakes State government on Sunday announced a 7-day curfew in all counties due to rising insecurity in the area.

On Saturday, three people were killed in an ambush along the road between Cueibet and Rumbek.

A senior SPLA officer was among the deceased.

Police say Colonel Yol Muordit Dhel, who bears the traditional markings similar to those of Cueibet youth, was mistakenly shot without being questioned by his assailants.

“The security committee met and decided to impose curfew for 7 days and it starts from 8 in evening up to 7 in the morning,” said Santo Domich Chol, Deputy Governor.

Mr Domich said the curfew is an attempt to control the rampant insecurity in the state.

Over the past few weeks, dozens of people have been killed in cattle raids, and retaliatory and inter-clan clashes in the state.
