Juba authorities review neighbourhood and market security operations
Authorities in Juba are reviewing security operations in neighbourhoods and local markets, with a focus on addressing unauthorised brokering activities among young people and improving public order.
The review was conducted during a high-level strategic meeting on Friday, November 6, chaired by Caretaker Mayor of Juba City Council Christopher Serafino Wani Swaka, alongside his three deputy mayors.
The meeting brought together senior police generals, security commanders and heads of security agencies operating across the city.
Discussions focused on assessing the performance of neighbourhood security sectors and sub-sectors, strengthening community security and improving cooperation between law enforcement agencies and residents.
The authorities also examined security challenges in local markets, particularly unauthorised brokering activities involving young people, which they said require attention to ensure orderly business operations.
Mayor Swaka urged security personnel to maintain professional discipline and build public trust through responsible conduct.
He also called on officers to lead by example by observing municipal sanitation and safety regulations, stressing that no one is above the law.
Swaka said lasting security and public order depend on mutual trust between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
He reaffirmed the city council’s commitment to working with security agencies to address operational gaps and strengthen coordination to make Juba safer, cleaner and more peaceful.
