• • 1 min read

The committee of Mining, Energy, Investment and Industry in the National Legislative Assembly has recommended to the government construction of fuel depots to reduce fuel shortage in the country.

Currently, there is a severe fuel shortage all over the country.

The fuel shortage could be avoided if there were depots or fuel storage, according to Hon Gatwech Lam, Chairperson of Mining and Energy in the National Legislative Assembly.

“We need to empower national companies so that they can be responsible and directly in charge of importing fuel as national companies,” said Mr Lam.

Currently, the oil industry is run by private investors, mainly Somali businessmen.

“Number two, we must construct depots in all the ten states and Nile pet should distribute fuel to all the states through its agents.”

Hon Lam, said the fuel crisis in South Sudan was caused by the delay in Mombasa Port in Kenya, clearance agencies, and scarcity of hard currency.

He said the committee will summon the concerned authorities to answer questions about the fuel crisis in the Country.
