Registration of clearance agents extended

• • 1 min read

The registration period for clearance agents at the borders has been extended for two weeks, the Director of Custom Service in the Ministry of Interior has said.

Last month, the Ministry of Interior banned more than 160 custom clearing agents at Nimule border with Uganda. Some of them were operating illegally, officials say.

Col Joshua Agwet Nikaya says clearance agents who have not applied for licenses until now have been asked to register before Friday.

Clearance agents were given up to the end of last month to renew their licenses in order to operate legally at the borders.

“We got a green light from the committee in Nimule to extend the new deadline,” Col Agwet told Eye Radio.

“It (process) will finish on the 14th November…[but] the last day to submit the application is 7th of November.”
