Education ministers from the ten states are holding a conference in Juba to review the challenges facing the education sector in the country.

The minister of Education in Western Bahr al-Ghazal State, Michael Madut, says the annual meeting will also review the progress made in the previous year.

He told the Sundown program that the three-day conference is discussing mainly the financial transfers to the states.

“One of them is the issue of capital grant which is sent to schools in states and cash transfers to girls’ education and operation which is sent to the counties to enable them carry out their activities effectively,” he said.

“Also, we discussed the issue of the challenges that are facing us in the states.”

Mr. Madut also said lack of qualified teachers, overcrowding in classes and lack of scholastic materials in both primary and secondary schools are among the challenges being discussed.

The conference, which was attended by senior government officials, is ending today.
