US executive order on S. Sudan irrelevant: Marial
“…to us we see this executive order is not relevant now.” – Barnaba Marial Benjamin.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs says the executive order by President Barrack Obama to extend the US national emergency in South Sudan for another year, is not relevant.
Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin says the conditions under which the US considered South Sudan as a threat to its national security and foreign policy a year ago have changed.
Barrack Obama renewed the order on Wednesday. The declaration of the national emergency allows the US government to deal with violence, atrocities and human rights abuses.
Dr. Barnaba told Eye Radio that the human rights situation has now improved.
He said: ‘‘The issues that raise that executive order were a crisis in 2013, and he said that there were extensive atrocities and killing, human rights violations and abuses. But that situation has changed now.”
The an executive order will also deal with recruitment, use of child soldiers, attacks on peacekeepers and obstruction of humanitarian operations
