Governor Lobong calls for stronger security measures in Kapoeta East

The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Louis Lobong Lojore, has called for stronger preventive measures and swift security responses in Kapoeta East County following weeks of livestock theft and highway robberies.

Governor Lobong received a security briefing from the Kapoeta East County Commissioner during his stopover in Narus on Monday while travelling to Soroti City in Uganda through Kenya.

The Commissioner said the overall security situation in the county remains generally calm, despite isolated cases of livestock theft.

He reported that suspected Turkana criminals had stolen goats from the South Sudan side, with some of the animals later recovered.

The Commissioner also reported recent highway robbery incidents in which commuters and motorcycle riders were allegedly targeted along some routes in the county.

Governor Lobong directed security authorities to remain proactive, strengthen coordination and respond quickly to emerging threats.

He also called for continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas and preventive measures to protect civilians, travellers and their property.

Governor Lobong is travelling to Uganda following an invitation from Ateker leaders to attend the closing ceremony of the Ateker Cup of Nations in Soroti City.

The Ateker is a group of related ethnic communities living in South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia.

The communities include Turkana in northwestern Kenya; Karamojong and Jie in northeastern Uganda; Toposa and Jie in southeastern South Sudan; Nyangatom in southwestern Ethiopia and South Sudan; and Teso and Lango in Uganda and Kenya.
