Justice Ministry forms taskforce to address post-election disputes
The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Wek Mamer, says the government has established a taskforce to address potential disputes following elections.
Mamer made the remarks during a meeting with the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Anita Kiki.
According to a post on the Ministry of Justice’s official Facebook page, discussions focused on the absence of the National Assembly and the legal frameworks needed to address possible post-election disputes.
Mamer said the government was prepared to deal with issues that could arise after the elections.
He also told the UN representative that the government was training police officers to support security operations during and after the electoral process.
The ministry has not provided further details about the taskforce’s composition, mandate or when it is expected to begin its work.
