Recent Raja aerial attacks could affect cross-country trade – official

• • 1 min read

Authorities in Raja County of Western Bahr el Ghazal State are concerned that a recent air bombing in the area could change trade relations with the Sudan.

A plane which the SPLA says came from the direction of the Sudan raided the area on Sunday morning, wounding 16 civilians.

The county gets trade commodities from the neighboring Sudanese towns.

The Commissioner of Raja County, Khamis Jalab, told Eye Radio that he is not sure if the Sudanese traders will not change the trade routes.

“We are ready to receive traders from Sudan who come to us through Timsah and other areas. But because of this attack, we don’t know what will be the changes,” he said.

The SPLA spokesperson, Colonel Philip Aguer, told Eye Radio that the situation is now calm in Raja County after the bombing.
