SPLA deploys soldiers along Juba-Bor road

The army has started deployment of security forces along the Juba-Bor road to ensure the safety of travelers, the SPLA spokesperson has announced.

This comes after a series of deadly road attack on travelers by armed men.

In May, at least 30 people were killed by a group of armed men who reportedly staged multiple ambushes along the road.

In a similar incident early this month, nine people lost their lives to unidentified gunmen near Muhandisen Bridge, Mongalla County.

As a result, an emergency security meeting chaired by the President resolved that forces would be deployed on the road to prevent further possible attacks.

SPLA Spokesperson Brigadier General Lul Ruai said the “rapid response forces” will tackle security threats along the road.

“To make the deployment very easy and more manageable, the 8th Infantry Division and Mechanized Division have started deploying forces from Bor town up to Mangala,” Brig. Ruai told Eye Radio Friday.

The forces will also ensure smooth flow of goods from Juba to Bor.
