SSRA collects SSP 138 billion in domestic taxes in first half of October
South Sudan’s Domestic Tax Revenue Division collected 138 billion South Sudanese pounds in the first 15 days of October, despite operational challenges affecting tax collection across the country.
According to a post on the South Sudan Revenue Authority’s official Facebook page on Wednesday, Acting Commissioner for Domestic Tax Revenue Angelo Aguot announced the figures during a visit by Commissioner General Rizig Dominic Samuel to the division’s offices in Juba on Tuesday evening
Aguot said the division had recorded improvements in revenue performance following nearly two months of monitoring, although staff continued to face several operational challenges.
Commissioner General Samuel commended the division, saying it contributes more than 80 per cent of the authority’s total revenue collections.
He described domestic taxation as the foundation of the authority’s success and urged staff to work collectively to increase government revenue and eliminate malpractice.
Samuel also called for an expansion of taxpayer registration across the country to broaden the tax base and improve compliance.
During the visit, division officials identified inadequate transport as one of the major obstacles to effective revenue collection, saying it limits their ability to visit taxpayers and businesses that fail to comply with tax requirements.
They also cited shortages of computers across the division’s five tax centres, saying additional equipment would improve efficiency.
According to officials, the division has 2,490 employees, including 139 newly recruited staff members who have yet to be deployed to their respective offices.
Limited cooperation from state and administrative area authorities was also identified as a challenge affecting efforts to improve tax compliance.
Samuel was appointed Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority by President Salva Kiir Mayardit on 22 September 2026, succeeding Ambassador Moun Deng Ajuet.
