UDF calls for amnesty to political detainees

The United Democratic Front Party is calling on President Salva Kiir to extend an amnesty to political detainees, including their former chairman Peter Abdurahaman Sule. Sule was arrested in 2011 on accusations that he was organizing a rebellion against the government. President Salva Kiir has yearly renewed amnesty to various rebels groups in the country, with exception of political detainees.

Speaking to the press today, the Chairperson of UDF party, Professor Phillip Youna, urge President Kiir pardon politicians that may have gone against the government. Professor Youna also called on David Yau-Yau and his group to cease hostilities and respond to the Presidential amnesty. Meanwhile, the UDF Party branch in Central Equatoria State has elected a new leadership under Rabi Musa Agrab. Rabi Musa said that UDF has registered over one thousand members in the Ten State –to qualify for the political parties’ registration in the country.
