Economic Reform Committee removes illegal checkpoints along Juba–Nimule Highway

The Economic Reform Committee says it has removed security and illegal checkpoints along the Juba–Nimule Highway, leaving only five checkpoints for security purposes.

Speaking in Nimule town, Minister of Public Service Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, who is a member of the Ministerial High-level Committee on Economic Reform, said the remaining five checkpoints will only be used for security checks.

“We made sure there is nothing called customs security. We have disbanded this security, and illegal checkpoints have also been dismantled. We made sure there are only five checkpoints from here to Juba, and these five checkpoints are strictly for security purposes,” he explained.

He said the checkpoints will not be used to collect taxes or fees from trucks transporting goods and services to Juba.

“They are not meant to check or tax trucks transporting goods and services. This is what we have done so far, and we will continue to make sure that nobody is allowed to violate this order,” he said.

Minister Lol warned that no one will be allowed to violate the directive or use the checkpoints to impose illegal charges on traders and truck drivers.
