Government to send peace delegation to Bahr el Ghazal, Unity State

The government has announced plans to dispatch a high-level delegation to Bahr el Ghazal and Unity State to promote peace and reconciliation ahead of the anticipated elections.

Vice President and Chairperson of the Service Cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, disclosed the plan during a meeting in Juba on Wednesday with the head of UNMISS, Anita Kiki Gbeho.

According to a statement from the Vice President’s office, the delegation will carry messages of peace, national unity, and reconciliation as part of efforts to foster a conducive environment for peaceful and credible elections.

During the meeting, Abdelbagi stated that the government remains committed to the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and stressed the importance of maintaining stability ahead of the polls.

He also praised the United Nations for its continued support to South Sudan since 2005 and called for stronger cooperation in peacebuilding, humanitarian response, education, and healthcare services.

The meeting further discussed continued collaboration between the government and the United Nations in promoting peace, protecting civilians, and improving service delivery across the country.

On her part, Anita Kiki who is also the Representative of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative said the United Nations…to supporting peace, security, and stability in South Sudan ahead of the elections.
