Juba ministries complex closed as three-month election countdown begins

The Ministries Complex in Juba has been closed this morning and remains under tight security, with employees reportedly barred from accessing their offices, according to Eye Radio journalist who toured the vicinity .

The development comes as South Sudan enters a crucial three-month period ahead of the December 22, 2026 general elections.

President Salva Kiir is expected to announce today, September 22, the status of the transitional government.

Under Section 15(2) of the amended National Elections Act, the President is required, within three months of the announced election date, to dissolve the National Legislature, state assemblies and national and state governments.

The National Elections Act, 2012 (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was passed by Parliament and signed into law by President Kiir within hours on Monday.
