Kiir reinstates Yau Yau to SPLM Political Bureau

President Salva Kiir has reinstated David Yau Yau to the SPLM Political Bureau, reversing his earlier removal from the party’s top decision-making body.

In October 2023, President Kiir abruptly dismissed Yau Yau, who was then a Member of Parliament and a member of the SPLM Political Bureau.

The reasons for this dismissal have not been publicly disclosed.

Following his removal, Yau Yau joined the SPLM-IO led by FVP Riek Machar on April 1, 2024.

Despite a high-profile reception at the SPLM-IO headquarters in Juba, he made a dramatic return to SPLM less than a month later.

On April 29, 2024, Yau Yau rejoined the SPLM in his home region of Pibor.

Yau Yau cited the influence of his Murle community, particularly the Chief Administrator of Greater Pibor, Gola Boyoi, as the key factor in his decision to return to the SPLM.

Gola Boyoi, Administrator of the Pibor Administrative Area, extended his congratulations to Gen. David Yau Yau on his reinstatement to the SPLM Political Bureau.

“Congratulations to Cde. Gen. David Yau Yau on your well-deserved return to the SPLM Political Bureau,” Gola posted on social media.
