The government of Warrap State has announced that President Salva Kiir is expected to visit the state tomorrow, June 5, as preparations for his reception are also underway in neighbouring Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

In a public invitation issued by the office of the governor of Warrap State, Bol Wek Agoth, President Kiir is expected to land at Wau Airport and proceed to Warrap State headquarters in Kuajok, where the reception will begin from Tharkueng, Yiith-Liet, Angui to the Secretariat General and Council of Ministers headquarters for briefing, then to Freedom Square for a public rally.

The governor called on the general public to queue from Tharkueng along the road up to the Council of Ministers.

Earlier, authorities in Western Bahr el Ghazal State said preparations were underway to receive President Salva Kiir, who was expected to visit Wau on a yet to be announced date.

Speaking to Eye Radio this morning, State Minister of Information Samuel Nicola Cornelio said the state government had begun preparations for the anticipated visit following directives from the governor.

He said committees have already been formed to coordinate the reception and ensure all necessary arrangements are in place ahead of the President’s arrival.

The minister added that both the government and residents of Wau are pleased about the planned visit, describing it as an opportunity for the President to engage directly with the people of the state.

“We are directed by the State Governor that we have to work hard and prepare ourselves for reception of His Excellency General Salva Kiir Mayardit, the President of the Republic. We are expecting to receive him in Wau any time,” he told Eye Radio on Thursday.

“We are lucky to hear that he is coming to see the people of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, the government and the people. Committees were formed so we are just working in preparation to receive His Excellency the President. Visiting us is also a very positive thing. So, for us, the government and the people, we are happy to hear that news and we are preparing ourselves to receive him,” he added.

The authorities in Wau and the Office of the President have not yet confirmed the exact date of the President’s visit.

The planned visit comes as First Lady Mary Ayen Mayardit arrives in Aweil, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, in her first visit to the state in several years.

The First Lady landed at Aweil Airstrip this morning, where she was received by senior state officials and residents.

Following her arrival in Aweil, the First Lady was expected to continue her journey to Akon in Warrap State for further engagements.
