Maiwut youth call for improved network coverage

Youth in Maiwut County of Upper Nile State are calling on the government and telecommunications companies to expand network coverage, saying poor connectivity is disrupting business activities, emergency response and daily communication.

The Chairperson of the Maiwut Youth Association, Daywal K. Jock, said in an email shared with Eye Radio that the county currently depends mainly on a single mobile network provider, which is often unavailable for weeks at a time.

He said the unreliable service has left residents without access to essential communication services and has affected internet connectivity, making it difficult for people to conduct online business, access information and communicate during emergencies.

Jock urged the government and telecommunications operators to prioritise expanding and upgrading network services in Maiwut County to ensure residents have reliable communication.

“Currently, Maiwut County relies mainly on one network service. Unfortunately, the network is often unavailable for weeks at a time, leaving citizens without communication. This situation affects business activities, emergency services, humanitarian operations, and communication with family members both within and outside the county. We therefore request the government and telecommunications providers to upgrade network services in Maiwut County,” Jock said.

According to Jock, reliable telecommunications services are no longer a luxury but a basic need that supports development, security and economic growth.

He added that residents of Maiwut deserve the same access to communication services as people living in other parts of South Sudan.
