Morobo authorities ban redtop alcohol, public use of miraa and marijuana

Morobo County authorities have banned the consumption of redtop bottled and sachet alcohol and the public use of miraa and marijuana, citing concerns over public disorder in the community.

The ban was announced in Local Order No. 004/2026 AD issued by County Commissioner Joseph Mawa John Okuba and took effect on June 9.

In a separate order, No. 003/2026 AD, the commissioner dissolved all unauthorized boda-boda associations operating in the county. The order states that the move is intended to facilitate the reorganization and registration of the associations in accordance with the law.

According to the commissioner’s office, the restrictions form part of efforts to address public order concerns and ensure compliance with local regulations.

The measures were announced in a statement issued by the Press Unit of the Office of the Commissioner of Morobo County.
