The Civil Society Organization, CEPO, has launched a peace campaign, to take place across the country.

The campaign, which started yesterday, will continue until the Independence Day. CEPO says they will be staging peaceful protests in the states within this period.

17 other civil society organizations have been invited to take part in the campaign.

“The campaign will be much more focusing on carrying out peaceful public rallies in the state capitals around the country,” said Edmond Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO.

“Maybe we will have a challenge with two states where we may not organize a peaceful protest, which is specifically Malakal and Bentiu but Bor is within our plan.

“And also we have an idea of having dedication of every Friday and Sunday to a peace prayer that the church has agreed with us.”

Mr. Yakani has urged the warring parties to listen to the voices of people calling for peace.

Delegates from the government, the SPLM in Opposition and the former detainees are currently meeting with IGAD mediators in Addis Ababa to consult on the peace process.
