NEC presents voter registration materials to President Kiir

• • 2 min read

The National Elections Commission has presented the voter registration book and other electoral materials to President Salva Kiir, as preparations continue for South Sudan’s December elections.

The presentation took place in Juba on Thursday, with NEC Chairperson Gabriel Bol Deng describing the materials as an important step toward voter registration.

The registration book is designed to record eligible voters and includes security features intended to give each registered voter a unique registration number.

The NEC says these measures are aimed at protecting the voter register against duplication, fraudulent reproduction and other forms of manipulation.

Gabriel Bol Deng says a credible election depends on transparency, inclusion and an accurate voter registration process.

President Kiir commended the Commission for its work and urged it to maintain momentum and complete the remaining preparations on schedule.

The NEC has been preparing for nationwide voter registration ahead of the December 22, 2026 general elections. In September, the Commission trained election officials from the ten states and three administrative areas on voter registration procedures.

The Commission has also said voter registration has not yet started, and no official voter registration figures currently exist. It is expected to be conducted manually, in person and on paper, before registration information is entered into the NEC’s computer systems.

The NEC is responsible for conducting and supervising elections in South Sudan, including voter registration, civic and voter education, candidate nomination and the management of voting and results.
