Northern Bahr el Ghazal signs power deal to bring electricity to Aweil town

The Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sun Gate Company to install and supply electricity to Aweil town.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony held in Aweil on Thursday.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the State Minister of Housing, Land and Public Utilities, Dominic Kang Deng, said the agreement marks another milestone in expanding electricity services across the state.

The minister said the State Government, through the Ministry of Housing, Land and Public Utilities, has entered into an agreement with Sun Gate Company to establish an electricity supply system for the state capital.

He said the ministry will allocate the land required for the project, while the company is expected to begin installing the power system within the next three months.

Sun Gate Chief Executive Officer, Mou Deng Ring, said the company has been operating in South Sudan, particularly in the Aweil area, for the past 13 years.

He said the company began installing a power system in Wanyjok in 2022 and is now extending its services to Aweil Town following the signing of the new agreement.

Ring added that the company is working with the State Ministry of Housing, Land and Public Utilities to secure the land needed for the project before installation begins.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Acting Governor Dr. Tong Lual Ayat, the State Minister of Housing, Land and Public Utilities, the State Minister of Animal Resources, the Mayor of Aweil Town, the State Secretary General, the State Legal Advisor, officials of Sun Gate Company, and staff of the Ministry of Housing, Land and Public Utilities.
