S. Sudan local govt launches $150M grassroots services project

• • 1 min read

The South Sudan Local Government Board, in partnership with the World Bank and other international agencies, has launched a 150-million-dollar project to improve service delivery at the grassroots.

The initiative, coordinated through the National Local Governance Coordination Forum, targets gaps in health, education, roads, and water services, aiming to strengthen livelihoods across Bomas, Payams, and Counties.

Chairperson of the Board, Michael Majok Agar, said the forum will focus on ensuring sustainable services that directly improve daily life in communities. A World Bank urban specialist also underscored the need for close monitoring to ensure investments in schools and health facilities deliver real benefits.

The project brings together key government ministries and partners including Japan International Cooperation Agency, International Organization for Migration, United Nations Development Programme, as well as NGOs such as World Vision and International Rescue Committee.

Beyond infrastructure, the forum will promote policy coordination and accountability. United Nations Mission in South Sudan says improved local services are key to reducing conflict and strengthening stability.
