UK envoy calls for dialogue to secure peaceful transition and elections

The United Kingdom Ambassador to South Sudan, David Ashley, has reiterated calls for dialogue among parties to the peace agreement to ensure a consensual end to the transitional period and the conduct of elections.

Ambassador Ashley made the remarks following a meeting with the Presidential Advisor on National Security, Tut Gatluak Manime.

According to the diplomat, it is important for all signatories to the Revitalized Peace Agreement to agree on a common way forward for the country.

“We discussed the importance of maintaining a ceasefire in Jonglei and in the rest of the country and we discussed the importance of dialogue. Dialogue is a means to achieve a consensual end to the transition and elections which would bring peace and democracy to South Sudan. So, it’s important that there is an agreed way forward involving all the parties to the agreement,” he said, speaking on SSBC on Monday.

, Ambassador Ashley also stressed the need to maintain the ceasefire in Jonglei State and across the country.

He said dialogue remains the best way to achieve a peaceful transition and credible elections.
