US announces additional $38M in Ebola response support
The United States has announced an additional 38 million US dollars in funding to support efforts to contain the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda.
In a statement, the U.S. Department of State said the additional support will strengthen a rapid and coordinated response in partnership with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as the governments of the DRC and Uganda.
“The funding will support a rapid and coordinated response in partnership with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the governments of the DRC and Uganda,” the statement said.
The new contribution brings the Department of State’s direct funding for Ebola response efforts to more than 200 million dollars.
The announcement comes on top of 350 million dollars already allocated for Ebola response and broader humanitarian assistance in the DRC, South Sudan, and Uganda as part of ongoing international health and emergency operations.
The United States said it remains the largest financial contributor to global Ebola response efforts.
Meanwhile, South Sudan has not recorded any Ebola cases, according to health authorities.
Officials say the outbreak remains confined to neighboring Uganda and the DRC, but surveillance and preparedness measures have been intensified.
The Ministry of Health, working with partners, has strengthened monitoring in border areas and points of entry to reduce the risk of cross-border transmission.
Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases, while emphasizing that there is currently no Ebola outbreak in the country.
