Victory celebration for Bright Stars cancelled

The National Ministry of Youth and Sports has canceled the Victory Celebration of the National Basketball Bright Stars scheduled for today in Juba, for reasons that have not been disclosed.

Earlier this week, the Ministry of Youth and Sports had issued a statement stating that the event to recognize the hard work and efforts of the players, coaches, and supporters who contributed to the team’s achievements.

The celebration was also intended to honor the growing passion for basketball in the country, following the team’s impressive performances against Nigeria, Guinea, and Tunisia last month.

The event was planned to take place at Nimira Talata Basketball Stadium in Juba today, September 3rd, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM.

However, the Ministry has now announced the cancellation of the event without providing a new date.

The Ministry had hoped to invite government officials, supporters, media, and the public to come together and celebrate this proud moment for South Sudan.
